Being a Safety Professional people at work are always sending me funny pictures related to safety. Well this one I wanted to share with you guys. I think this guy may have been headed to the NASCAR race in Talladega last week to throw a couple of beer cans!

People say pictures are worth a 1000 words, well...

Oh wait till my Adrmiral sees that, she had a 1986 chevy blazer, what a (scary) hoot! You have to love the ingenuity of the driver.

All I can say is, NASCAR has a strange "pull" on some people.

I especially like the 4x4 bracing the tailgate from below!
Wonder how much exhaust gets sucked in while towing...

I actually have witnessed a set up like that in action twice in my life... (so far).

Both times the results were pretty much the same. The tow vehicle crested a small hill, driver touched the brakes and the front wheels of the rig came off the ground. They turned 90 degrees, crossed the opposing lanes and ended up in the ditch on the other side. Fortunately nobody was hurt in either incident... but it could have been very ugly.

If I was a cop and saw someone pulling a stunt like this I'd throw them in the slammer for reckless endangerment, mopery or whatever charge I could find.

To get some of the tongue weight off, they'll probably load the back of the trailer with 30 cases of Schlitz and 10 drunk yahoos.

I see similar stuff every year when I do my semiannual pilgrimmage to the infield at MIS. On the roads leading up to the track, you'll see the occasional school bus/trailer/vehicle of unknown origin broken down on the side of the road with a bunch of people partying next to a DNF sign. Hopefully, the NASCAR school bus owned by me and my buddies won't suffer a similar fate.

The real kicker was the piece of 4x4 between the tailgate and the tow hitch, indicates the builder suspected a flaw in his concept.

Doesn't look like he has much turn angle, either!

I am embarrassed and dismayed to see that the driver is a fellow Utahn. But I really like the added chains to support the tailgate using 'S'hooks through holes drilled in the edge of the tailgate. I'm sure that exhaustive tensile strength analysis was performed to size the chain, hooks and attachment points properly.

I can hear it now. "Yes sir, the reason this blazer has low mileage is because it was used only on weekends. And to your other question; Yes it does come with a towing package."

It appears a sudden stop might result in the trailer's hitch taking out the Blazer's radio.

You know the trailer ends up using a regular hitch ball and the attachment point is right above where a normal hitch ball would be. The guy could have skipped all of the mods and simply used a regular hitch insert with a raised ball. It still would be dangerous and funky but would have had a cleaner look and those NASCAR girls like a clean look.

I'm not sure weather to say "job security" or "stupidity kills... just not often enough".

It is not a 4x4, it's a compression post
