Dennis, I took your advice, and I am getting the CD bowroller, I had to do this because with all the rain we have been having in KY, I noticed where some of my leaks were coming from. The portlights are leaking, so that has to be done....well at least one is leaking. And the bowstem is leaking, so I am going to do it first, since the mast is still on the deck. If you or anyone else have tips, instructions or guidance, I am more than open. I will try and take pics if I can remember to do so as I work. cheers. Barry
Hi Barry, just don't drop your drill in the drink I can't remember if we talked about this, but it will appear that you have to take off the bumper strip to get at the factory screw that holds the tang on now, but you only have to grind out the aluminum in front of the screw. Go to Granger and buy an aluminum grinding bit for a die grinder and use it in your drill. It will only take you a few minutes. Cheers. If you want you can take step by step pictures and post them in the tec tips for the next guy. Cheers.
This is my effort to fix the leaks and add the bow roller on a stainless steel plate bolted to the bow fitting. The plate is tapped for the roller and everything is sealed. I'd tie a line to the drill and tie the dingy up close to the work to catch anything that tries to jump in the water. http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b6cc26b3127cce8fad400d7e2800000016100AZs2jZkzbMWKA I just heard someone say tie the drill line around your neck. Anyway my bow fitting is the one that has a tie to the bow eye with a hole through the anchor locker.
The CD bow roller is a great upgrade that everyone with the early stem fittings should make. My "bow" leak was from the anchor locker drain, it is common. I found the interior so poorly finished that sealing what was there did not make sense so I up graded the drain as Leon had suggested. It allowed me to use epoxy putty which worked really well.
looks like my plan is on hold, and may have to do it in the water. Darn it. I called CD and somebody bought the last one on the shelf. Its now on back order. thats sucks. But I hope it will come in as quick as the last item that I got on back order. well Thanks for the input, and when it comes in will post pics of my process to replace my old one. cheers
Hey Bear, just get a bass boat, they are stable, and a case of beer, put on Craig Morgan's "Redneck Yacht Club", hire a couple strippers and it turns out to be an easy job!!!!
