Is this much smaller than normal for a Coast Guard ship?

What do you consider "normal" for a USCG boat size?

Their bigger ones might not want to go where the Empress just ran onto the rocks...

I have never seen one but the size of the people on the deck make this one look like it is really miniature.
Which one is it?

Except all the 123 footers are in Key West stopping the Cubans.

The emperess is 360 feet long and out of Alaska, so I'm putting my money on the 110 footers. Anything bigger than that is currently painted Gray without the red strip reporting to the SECNAV or looks like a brick outhouse.

If you push me hard enough I'm calling it the Liberty, but I can't really make out jack for a bow number from the original photo.

The reason I suspected the 123 is the lower superstructure aft of the bridge, and the overall longer aft deck. The picture of the 123 shows the CG stripe. I'll stay with my pick.

Never mind--another story says it's the Liberty, which is 110'.

You could be right based on the aft deck area. Though it would be a long haul to rescue that boat.

123' Cutters in service:

ATTU (WPB 1317) Key West, FL
MANITOU (WPB 1302) Key West, FL
MATAGORDA (WPB 1303) Key West, FL
METOMPKIN (WPB 1325) Key West, FL
MONHEGAN (WPB 1305 Key West, FL
NUNIVAK (WPB 1306) Key West, FL
PADRE (WPB 1328) Key West, FL
VASHON (WPB 1308) Key West, FL

Looks huge compared to the 47' motor life boats we have here in Morro Bay.
