I have a 1983 C25 with blue stripes on the sides. They are badly faded and I want to repaint them. Does anyone have the color code for '83 Catalina blue?
Thanks,
Tom

Tom, I have an '81 with blue boot stripes. When Igot the decal for the name, "process blue" was a close match. The other close one is "ocean blue". You should find both in a PMS chart.

Before painting, you might try polishing, rubbing compound, or even light wet sanding to bring the color back on your boot/rub rail stripes.

I second Don's suggestion. A polishing compound for heavily oxidized gelcoats can do wonders with only a little work. 3M's product worked great on my boot strip although for the topsides I prefer West Marine's...it's less abrasive and easier to work with.

I bought self-adhesive vinyl striping in blue from one of the marine supply stores (WM?) and applied it myself over the original boot stripe. It was easy to apply and it has stayed on well and looks good for almost 5 years now.
A lot easier than painting.
The boot stripe is about an inch wide.
I also purchased a wider vinyl tape (2" ?) and applied it just under the rub rail on that raised up bit of fibreglass.

I have an 83, and I my stipes are pretty faded also, but good shot of turtle wax ice saved them..Now let me add, I only did about 2 feet, because I am going to Vert Glass the whole boat. I put that on the worst part with much cleaning or anything just wanted to see what it did...wow..did good job. So I say wax or vert glass or similar product. Actualy come to think of it I found this stuff after I founde vert glass called Island girl. its also very good, but more expensive. But is some very amazing stuff. Check it out. Just google Island girl and it will come up. well good luck. Oh, as far as painting...I feel that painting is a last resort. once you start you can never quit and it fades also, then you paint build up to deal with. so I would try to save the original fiberglass color. By the way my stripe is part of the glass. or gel coat....well hope that helps.

Bear is right, the stripes are gel coat, not paint. My '82 is beige, w/brown stripes. When I repaired some transome damage last year, I cut into the stripe, and it is gel coat, and much thicker than paint, so polishing with a mild abrasive can remove the oxidation and get the stripe close to the original color without masking and painting. The whole hull probably could stand it.
