Old Hood Seafurl question

I admit right from the start here that I'm getting old and am possibly having just a major case of CRS, but as I was launching my Cat today, I couldn't be sure of how the old Hood seafurl was set up. This is only my third season with her and the raing/lowering of the mast isn't second nature yet, and it seems I always have to relearn the whole shebang each time. Also last year a twist developed and it was almost disastrous.
So, on that note, does anyone know of a source of photos/diagrams of the proper way of setting these old systems up?
It seems that the two piece swivel at the top/mast side of the system should spin independantly of each other, but for some reason theres an attached wire there between them that I don't remember putting there (but I did have professional help for a day, so he might of installed it). Anyway, after getting the mast up and launched (and being rather tired), I thought it prudent to seek advice before returning tomorrow and putting on the jib.

I'd say your instinct about the swivel is correct--the upper part has to remain stationary with the halyard, and the lower part turns with the furler. Also, you might have a small block on the mast that the halyard goes inside of before connecting to the swivel, to help hold the upper part in place (preventing the dreaded "halyard wrap). Can you find the guy who helped you and ask about the wire? I don't know why he'd do that.

I might be able to find him next week, Dave, but its Memorial weekend, and doubt he'll be around (next bay over anyway). But thanks for at least reassuring me that my thinking was in line. I just don't remember that wire connecting the two swivels being there. Hmmmm.
Well, I guess the games' afoot now, eh? Mysteries abound!
Maybe I'll just do a small "main only" sail today after scrubbing her down, and see if I can get some more info around here before Sunday afternoon.
