I plan on replacing the impeller on my 1985 9.9 evinrude, are there any seals that will need replacing? Is there anything else I should do while I have the engine off the boat this weekend? I plan on new plugs and lower gear lube. I Knew I should have made time this winter to do the engine work, OH WELL.

I actually just completed this project on my 1998 Honda 15hp last weekend. It was easier than I thought. I bought the impeller replacement from the dealer and it included two replacement gaskets. I don't know about the Evinrude, but for my Honda it was just a matter of removing four screws, removing a lock nut that held the shift linkage together, then dropping the lower unit off. Inside on the top of the lower unit was the water pump, four screws to remove the pump enclosure, and the impeller was free. We also changed the oil and lower unit oil. Hopefully yours will be just as easy.
