It's just oil whipped up with an emulsifier, usually eggs, and a little seasoning, maybe a little acid like lemon juice or vinegar. Basically, it's just vegetable oil, just not as runny.
MAYO: It really is terrific. A good story: I was fortunate to take part in the offshore odyssey, a 60' Lagoon Catamaran cruising the world, (I produced their videos -- http://www.offshoreodysseys.com) I got roughed up a bit by some coral and the captain addressed my wounds with some hydrogen peroxide. Now this extremely wonderful cat was nearly new and not a scratch on it--and in the main saloon where my wounds were getting cleaned, he put the bottle of Hydrogen peroxide on the table for about 15 minutes. What a white ring it burned into the teak! We were bummed-- right in the middle of the table! Years ago I learned that simple mayo could rub it out. It worked perfect-- not even the captain could find the ring after a few applications! I call it miracle whip! On my 25, I pulled off some maritime crap on the interior teak, the color was off under the old fixtures-- mayo again to the rescue- two applications, --all of two fast food packets-- and you cannot tell where the fixtures were. I'm a believer!
