I'm also changing to all rope halyards and I have another question about the sheaves in the masthead. When I took out the old sheaves there was an aluminum plate separating the pairs. If the new sheaves need to be wider in order to accomodate the rope should this piece still be used? I assume it's there in order to keep the halyards from jumping the tracks.

Yes, the divider is to keep the halyards separated and to prevent them from jumping the sheaves.

My new sheaves from Belpat (for 5/8" halyards) fit fine with the divider.
