I am happy to announce that the Red Sled managed to win the Tall Rig and Overall National's again this year. Many thanks to Bill Meinert and the other competitors. 4 boats was not as many as we would have liked. We had plenty(too much) wind on the first race-Thursday evening. Overpowered and I don't think any of us reefed in. My team got a 3rd and were wondering at that point if we could repeat as Champions. On Friday evening there was good wind and a great race. Saturday we did 2 shorter races on a triangular course and you could just about see each mark so it was easier to navigate. On Sunday there was a lot of wind and we reefed our main and had the jib furled up part way for the upwind legs. Only one race that day. The Red Sled took 1st in each of the last 4 races. The fin keel seemed to be the difference on the reaches but the swing keel boats did very well upwind. Great hospitality from Edgewater. Gumbo, Chili, beer, burgers, beverages. Live Music.

To celebrate our victory-and life in general-we sailed to the lake Erie Islands-by way of Vermillion-on the 4th of July. 50-60 miles-which is a long way for a small lake sailor like myself. went to Put-in-Bay and Kelly's Island. Ate some great perch dinners. Cappped it off by going directly back to Cleveland from Kelly's Island. 10 hours. pulled into Cleve. at 10 PM-in the dark. Very cool.

Ran into a couple who had spent 2 weeks on their O'Day 25 cruising the Islands-Cedar Point(amusement park)-area. So these size boats can do an awful lot-as many of you know. Those of you with trailers should plan a trip to thais area.

Thanks again Bill, and the other competitors. Remember the Harvest Moon Regatta at Atwood Lake near Canton, Ohio. Sept. 7-9. Come and race at my home club. I will not guarantee Lake Erie winds--but definitely a GREAT TIME.

Glad you had a good time.
I would be interested more in getting together for a cruise than a race. The best I have ever done is 38 miles in one day on a single broad reach in the Keys.

Were there any wing keel boats? If so, I bet they got blown away as they don't point worth a darn, but easy to trailer. Everything is a compromise.

Frank, on the first day of the BEER cruise this year, we sailed a 28 mile course. The day started with really light winds (we even put up our makeshift spinnaker) but by mid afternoon it was great sailing.

I agree with you, crusing is our choice, but must admit, when we went head to head with Tom Potter on Knotty Cat and a third boat along a limited channel, it was a tough decision to have to turn up and dowse the sails for the approaching bad weather. Great fun, but we were not racing (just incase the insurance company reads this )

Where did you do a 38mile transit down here?

Paul.
