Does anyone know if Catalina published a shroud length specification? Or is each boat just alittle different. I stepped my mast for the first time this week and I am trying to tune the rig appropriately. I have noticed that with the lower shrouds completely relaxed and the main shroud relaxed as much as it can be relaxed I have a bow in the mast both abeam and fore to aft. This indicates to me that my main shrouds may be too short and are compressing the mast even when relaxed fully. I've set the rake for 8" but have a big bow forward. Am I obsessing or is something wrong here? If I tighten up the lower shrouds to straghten everything up I just end up with a "snakey" looking mast. You guys that have sailed these boats more than I have give me a clue here. Thanks

I need to edit the length of the forstay to 31'-10". I took this number from the Haarstick sails tuning guide. I have an EP main sail, the quilted Dacron. you can see the sail here being built. http://www.epsails.com/DCP_0745.JPG
I went with the 31'-10" because it gave me a solid number for the forstay, I can let out the forstay to adjust for lighter conditions, but at the 31'-10" it seems well balanced, and the helm it light.
Thanks Chris, Any and all information is appreciated. I'm dealing with a couple of issues that are puzzling to me. One issue is I've discovered that one of my main strouds is shorter than the other by about 3". I'm pretty sure this is the reason I can't get my mast straight side to side. This boat has very nice Ronstan type 1 calibrated turnbuckles on the main strouds, but the threaded terminal on the port side looks like it was broken off and is shorter than the starboard side. When I got the boat the starboard terminal was bent and I straightened it. When I stepped the mast it pulled the mast over too much and I can't relieve it enough to straighten the mast back up. Therefore, I think I need to replace both main strouds and would like to know what the pin to pin length Catalina specified for this item before I take the mast down to replace it. I weigh 235 lbs so I don't think I'm going up the mast and remove a stroud! Do you know the original source of all of the drawings and documents that you have on your website? Seems like Catalina would have this documented somewhere. Thanks again Joe
Kent Nelson with Catalina Yachts was very helpful on this issue. The following is the information he provided.
Upper shroud - 3/16" dia 1x19 cable w/ 5/16" threaded terminal. pin to end of terminal distance is 29'-11" +/- 1/2". chain plate pin to end of standard open double ended turnbuckle (OEM) is approx. 6".
