I am wanting to install a bimini for my Tall Rig Cat 25. If you have a tall rig and have installed a bimini, your insight and suggestions would be most helpful. I am also looking for pictures of your setup (boom location on mast) with the sail raised for a tall rig cat 25.
I am looking at a bimini that is 46" high, 79-82" wide.
I am starting to feel that the tall rig is more trouble than it is worth!
I transferred the bimini from my Catalina 22 to our recently acquired 1984 tall rig C-25. The pole ends touch the deck about half-way between the cockpit combing and the genoa track. I'm pretty sure my bimini is measured at 36 inches tall and 78 wide. Even with a 36 " height, I have to reef the main if I want to sail with the bimini up. I bought it from www.boatcoverddirect.com. however, you might check out the thread in the Catalina 25 Specific forum from jbeardjr. He ordered one via Ebay for $189. David
I have a bimini on my TR, but I wanted standing head room and it is 8" too high for the TR main. I sail with a reef, or take the bimini down. I am going to have a sail loft put in a new reef, 12" up from the foot and this should give me plenty of room. I am going to have a screened in enclosure made for the bimini for more living space.
I have a bimini on my '89 Tall Rig. I only use it when I am at the dock or motoring. There is no way to use it when sailing without major modifications to the mainsail and/or boom.
This is my bimini from WM 10 years ago which I do sail with reef if left up and it stores quickly tied up to back stay with or without cover. I do have to slid the cars back toward back stay to store out of way. I did cut the top of the SS loop off and drilled keeper holes in each stud that was left. Used the plastic base fitting with holes drilled to match the studs of the cars. The bimini is a 36" X 78" which I did lower 2 inches to keep the boom from resting on it. It is adjustable at each bow and the straps also adjust and I have the forward straps shortened and tied to the life lines to keep the access forward. I can put it on when on the trailer for protection. I put snaps on the bimini edges to secure a sun screen on the sunny side when at a dock while waiting for the green flash. Did put a clear vinyl hatch cover on with snaps this last cruise to keep the rain off. Keeping cool and dry has been worth the trouble.
I like DoubleD's idea of having a second set of reef points installed about 12 inches above the foot of the TR main. Should cost a lot less than buying a new main.
