I have a 1987 sea ranger sailboat dinghy that has a slow leak. I am wondering how I can tell what type of material it is for repair. Also it seems to be a slow leak and not sure what is the best way and product to fix a small leak and/or large holes.

I'm surprised your post went over 24 hours without some Leaky Dinghy - Penicillin comment

I had an old Avon - I had to get the HID and kind of root around on the web to find out what it was.

For those that don't know - if it is hapalon (sp) the glue is different than if it is vinyl. They will both work - but the one will only work for a little while if on the wrong material.

Well if its anything like this Sea Ranger Sailboat Dinghy its not hypalon or vinyl. I think you need to clarify.

Aquaseal with cotol accelerator is the best product I've found for sealing leaks in just about any inflatable or neoprene product.

I found some at a local dive shop for about $8 for the Aquaseal/cotol combo package. I keep it in my tool box on the boat.

McNett, the manufacturer has lots of good products, and advice on how to take care of your gear.

Since I don't know what kind of material your dinghy's made of, not sure how helpful this is, but if it's an inflatable, this is a pretty good place to start.

Thanks for the input. I don't know the type of material either. Going to pull the HIN and do some more research.

We have the same (but different) raft which came with our boat when we bought it. It's floor is badly deteriorated and the raft has definitely seen better days. This is what we thought to try to perhaps squeeze a few more years out of it.

It would for sure make it good enough for a little work boat to use for things such as cleaning the hull while in the water.

Oh! Forgot to mention that we have the original manual for the raft and is made of Hypalon with neoprene floor.
