Well it looks like everyone is making there summer trips. This year Ruth and I decided to go sounth. We spent one week on the water and every day was great. The crabbing was good, we made new friends of John and Tatiana Mason, did some exploring and had some great sailing.
There were a few days where the wind was spectacular and at one point we spent almost 2 hours on one tack. We visited Penrose Point, McMiken Island, Jarrell Cove, Eld inlet, Olympia (Percival Landing), back to Penrose Point, Dockton on Vashon Island and back to Tacoma. We feasted on red rock crab and generaly had a very relaxing time. I had fun playing with several new inventions and came up with a few more while we were out. We rafted with John and Tatiana two nights and shared stories and ideas. Ruth and I discover a very old and rustic cafe in Olympia called the Spar. If your ever at Prcivals landing its one block inland and 4 blocks to the left (small blocks). The cafe at one point in time was a very bawdy saloon and the walls are covered with old logging pictures. Following are several pictures of the trip.Tatiana, John and my wife Ruth feast on Butter clams, Oysters, and Rock Crab.John and Tatiana on the hook at McMiken Island.Ruth putting the flag up at Dockton.Red Rock crabs ready to eat.Ruth reading the South Sound Gunkhole book.Ruth at Percivals Landing with Lady Washington in the background.Sailing on Commencement bay in the footsteps of Peter Pudget. The skipper (Douglas)I dont need to explain the grin. The END

Looks like a great time was had by all!! Marge and I hope life will let us spend a week or two in south sound next summer. Not much hope for that much time this year unless my Lotto ticket was a winner!

FABULOUS! Sure glad somebody is having fun in the sun.
That crab is making my mouth water.
The wind was blowing today here in N. FLA. but it is just to blasted hot. I'm hoping to take some time off and trailer to the Keys next month when lobster season opens (and before the hurricanes get here.)

Safe voyages,

Great photos! It seems like another world away with all the clothes you have on. This past Sunday was about as hot as I've ever felt it here on the Bay. It was great sailing, but just so hot when you come back in...
Thanks again for sharing the pics!

The weather this year has been strange to say the least. Cool mournings / overcast with hot afternoons. The days will be sunny and hot but still have plenty wind. Not usual for this time of year. Friday and onto the weekend is a chance of showers with snow level possably down to 6000 feet. Gale warnings in Admiralty inlet. Glad I went south this year instead of into the San Juans. Sea fair is on with hydro races and Blue Angels. Tall ships will be showing up in the middle of August with a parade into Lake Union. Check www.48north.com

Why did you guys screw up the weather? I'm leaving Wednesday, driving, for Bellingham to spend two weeks in the San Juans on a Catalina 36, starting Saturday. Guess I should pack some warm clothes.

DougA the weather front and storm should be past by then. I would not worry about it to much. You have picked a good time to go. You should be able to see some of the tall ships sailing. They will be in Canadian waters from Aug 8 thru 12th and then will be sailing south to Seattle. Have a wonderful trip.
