My recent purchase is a 2002 Catalina 250. Once I got it "out of the box and unwrapped," I started familiarizing myself with the rigging. I noted that the bottom mast feed which attaches the mainsail to the mast closest to the boom, was attached to the sail by approximately six inches of line. The line, which is knotted at both ends, runs from the sail eyelet just above the mast feed, through the mast feed, and then back to the sail eyelet just below the mast feed. This configuration is different than the other sail eyelets which have their mast feeds sewn onto them the rest of the way up to the top of the mast. Can anyone advise me if this set-up is correct...or, is this a dealer mistake? Thanks!
What your describing sounds like a Jackline. This allows the sail to be reefed without having to remove the sail stop knob and let a slide past. This is an alternative to the Mast Gates described in the Tech Section.
