We have jettisoned the cooler under the counter in favor of a larger Igloo that we keep under the table when cruising. I would like to transform the old cooler space into a cabinet/storage for cookware and food. Has anyone done this and want to share their photos??
We cannot direct the winds but we can adjust our sails.
Have you considered getting larger cooler and placing in current cooler space? Also I have seen some great mods on this site where others have replaced the current table with a smaller one and then attached storage bins underneath the table. Just a thought.
Randy, FYI - I also use a Igloo cooler under the table (it is a 5-day cooler and holds ice better, but is a tight fit at the factory cooler location). It also doubles as an extra seat at the table when all the kids are on the boat. When I do take the Igloo cooler on cruises, I use the factory cooler as a food locker in its under the counter location.
Also, leaving the factory cooler in its place, gives me a cooler for day sails (I leave my Igloo cooler at home in the garage unless going out for the weekend/longer cruises - I can then stock it at home and bring it to the boat).
I thought about adding shelves, but kind of like the flexability I have with my use of the current cooler arrangement.
Sean, do you sleep in the aft berth? I like the cooler location there but wonder if it makes it difficult to enter the aft berth. Also, where are your pots and pans? When we cruised we kept all that stuff in baskets on the aft berth but I got tired of crawling back there to get things. Hence, the idea to move the food and cooking gear into that pretty big under-counter space. Hard to believe that no one has made that conversion!
For day trips we use a small cooler that fits behind the steps.
We sleep in the front . I find it easier to get up quick , and check whats going on .
we have 2 shelves under the sink , a fry pan , 3 quart pot , and a small pot to warm up a can of something up , but since we got the grill , I'm happy with hamburgers and hot dogs . I precooked ribs a couple of times . potato salad
The garbage takes up a lot of room ! we use a big hefty bag behind the stairs
Like you Randy, we bought a five-day cooler that fits wedged between the keel step & port settee & use the old blue "cooler" for pots & pans, etc. storage. The new cooler serves as a drink holder & ottoman and really isn't in the way at all even though it sticks out into the cabin a bit. I think the only one it annoys is our chocolate lab because she can't be velcro-ed to whoever is sitting on that side. We also bring a small day cooler with us for drinks and easy access in the cockpit, as well as a water cooler that fits in the sink that we fill with ice. We quickly learned that the blue "cooler" was useless. We keep our tool bag & first aid kit behind the ladder, and our ditch bag up in the V-berth. This isn't my favorite place for it, so I'm looking for a better place that's more easily accessible from the cockpit in an emergency.
Its still a work in progress , I wound up tying some small rope around the bottles it holds it in place while were anchored . We put them lower while were sailing. Bailys , Vodka and half / half , plenty of ice .We could stay anchored all day !!
Sean, is the plate and cup holder next to radio home made? This weekend I as out in a nice breeze, healed over 15 degrees and my stuff went flying. Luckily nothing broke.
Steve its from Defender.com ,call for a catalog there easier to read and check prices . There in CT so the shipping might cost more for you , but they have good prices . P119 in the teak products .
Ya it is tuff trying to keep it looking like that while your sailing . I tied some rope around the bottles and it keeps it pretty steady while light sailing .
and some rope for the cd`s keeps them still .
I d like to do that top shelf over this winter . it could be a little bigger , its a usefull shelf and nothing falls from there .
