Surprise is for sell. I hate to get rid of her, but I cant sail and take care of two boats.
Surprise is a 1983 Fin keel, standard rig Catalina 25 sail boat. Hull#4009
She has a 150 Genoa, standard jib, main, Spinniker (lightly used) and a storm sail. All set up for use on the superfurl furler, except the storm sail.
electronics include new this year depth/speed raymarine bidata instument, with transducers. New Stereo with 4 speakers. two in main cabin two in v-berth. new mast light, new deck light/steaming light, new bow and stern lights. wiring harness for mast is new. new batterys one this year one last year.
This boat has been well cared for in my short ownership, I had intended to keep her a long time, but life changes and I am able to get my dream boat sooner than I thought. I Vertglassed the hull this year, whats left over of the vertglass will go with boat, wont work on my new one. recovered the cushions, put new curtains in, new carpet in, rebedded all the stanchions minus the bow, I have a bow roller to go on the bow that will go with to buyer, I have other little odds and ends that I will prob throw in so you can finish some of the work I wanted to get to. which is not much. its rebedding bow pulpit, and resealing the ports.
The bottom paint is new this year, all bottom work was contracted out to Green Turtle Bay on lake Barkly, they did a great job. there may be other things that have been done I cant think of. This a tight boat. She is quick, I have overtaken other boats while sailing she is wonderful boat. I took Daves advices put the wind on the beam eased the sheets and she took off. She just needs someone to care for her and keep up what I started. all outside wood was redone and I will include whats left..I used teak gaurd, good stuff. also has gas shocks for pop top, they work great, another install that I did. New Tiller. New sheets two years ago, new Main halyard new jib halyard this year. Well thats it, call cause its great buy.
engine is a Johnson 9.9 long shaft,
It comes with a trailer, and a 25ft extension, and electric brakes all new last year. new wood and carpet on trailer. all new tires on trailer last year. limited travel on trailer since I owned it. It looks like hell, but its built like a tank. also on trailer is rubber skirting to protect keel when recovering the boat.
I am selling my boat because I bought a Catalina 42 Mk II. I cant sail two boats and as much as I hate to part with my 25, I have to be honest with myself, will I really have time to sail my 25, so got to let her go.
I am asking 10,000.00 I belive for the quality of boat, work putinto her, plus condition she is in, its a steal. Make an offer

To put her up for sale after all that work, especially that great shelf by the main hatch! Hey, are you going to post the dimensions for the shelf. I'm still interested in having one built.

It will bring many years and wonderful times sailing with my kids....So getting my Catalina 42 pertty soon...thats why have to part with her, I didnt want her to just set and collect dust dirt spider webs and rot,,,,she will make someone a fine little boat, and bring them many hours of happiness.

I am interested in taking a look at the boat, how road worthy do you think the trailer is? I live in Cincinnati, I think that is around 4ish hours from your location. I will try to give you a call sometime this week, I am stuck in Cali this week so the time change is messing with my head still.

I haven't been back to this thread until today. I'm very sorry to read about your wife's passing. I hope you are doing well, and I'm sure you will find a buyer. Almost makes me wish I had waited a year to buy our boat.

Hi Barry,

I had not read all the posts.

Very sorry to hear of your wifes passing.

Having owned 2 C-25s I can tell from the pics your boat is a gem. Maybe, if my steinway piano sells, I could buy her.

She has "Bahamas Trip" written all over her.

Best wishes.

Paul

Thanks for the wishes, and Paul your right, she is a gem, and I am sure someone will see that, and I do agree she could make the Bahamas run and what a sweet run she would make it.
We are getting along fine, some saddness, frustration, but that is all passing and we are left with pleasent memories, and heck we will never forget for each time we set sail, its because of her wish and desire that we have such a fantasic boat. She sails like little Surprise, just a little bigger, and heavier, so carries a long way.....I firlmy believe her spirit will always be with us, soon I may have to keep some of that to myself, but it will always be there I know that. Well trying to keep warm and dry waiting for a clearing in weather so I can take her out sailing, till then, Cheers to all.

Hi Barry,

I'm glad that your getting along okay. I'm sure it's tough.

Do you need a Steinway piano for the C-42.

Maybe we could shoe-horn it into the V-Berth.

I had a feeling that this one wouldn't stay on the market very long. Looking forward to hearing from the new owner!
