High density polyurethane rudder is solid plastic, carved by machine from a single block. No fiberglass to split, and no wood or foam core to absorb water. Overall length, 76"; chord length (fore and aft), 12". Balanced design. Pintels. No tiller. Painted gray below waterline, otherwise like new. (I upgraded to kick-up rudder after brief use.) Costs $649 new from Catalina Direct. (http://www.catalinadirect.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1277) $450.00 + shipping.
How much does it weigh compared to a std C-25 rudder? Also, does it need to be removed from the transom if you are not going to be sailing for a while?
It does not need to be removed from the transom if not sailing. Mfgr says that with half the rudder immersed while moored, water will dissipate any heat buildup, preventing warping.
