Does anyone have the companionway dimensions for an 89' handy? I want to get a small window a/c set to use in case it's warm when I go for my 2 day vacation at the end of the month.

A standard 5-6.5 K BTU window unit will sit on the threshold. If you look at the dimensions of several on the web you will see they all have the same dimensions. HOWEVER!!!! The slant of the bulkhead creates an issue which you must observe. Most window AC units exhaust air out the back, but they must get that air from somewhere. That air is supposed to outside ambient air so they put the intake vents on the side of the casing leaving the back for the outlet. On our boats the intake vents will end up inside the boat, sucking all your cooled air out! You need to find or modify a unit so that the intake vents are outside the cabin when the unit is installed. Climbing over these things is very difficult as well, even if physically capable it is hardly a lady like event. I modified a window unit for my companionway and was very impressed with the cooling job it did but could not cope with the ingress and egress issue as well as the storage hassle and hassle of taking it in and out. (Another mod, is you really need a strong handle on the top of the case.) All of this is why I have my AC permanently installed in my quarterberth and strongly recommend you consider the same. Another solution if you have the right dock situation is to leave the unit on the dock and use flexible insulated duct which could be installed into a replacement lower crib board.
Thanks Greg. My a/c is 17x11 1/4 so it'll work well and I'll only have to cut a modified bottom slat. And Frank, I WOULD LOVE to have a unit permanently installed but it's cost prohibitive. I also understand about the fan air intake area and will make sure it's positioned so it's outside. Thanks for the advice!
