My first mate's son is in the US Navy stationed on the USS Nimitz in Coronado, Ca. We went out to greet the ship this past September and were amazed at the beautiful sailing conditions in the bay and offshore. We are planning another trip out there in May of 08' and were hoping we could find a C-25 or C-250 to rent for a few days. (better than a hotel in my mind.) Can anyone recommend a good place to rent? Or do you know any club members that may be able to help us out with a great discount?
Thanks in advance.

Cate,

Your first mates son might be able to rent one on base at the Fiddlers Cove marina.

From their website...

Located along the scenic Silver Strand Highway just south of NAB, Fiddler’s Cove offers kayak, canoe, sail and power boat rentals for a unique San Diego-style adventure. The marina is located off-base and is open to active duty, retirees, DoD civilians and civilian guests without ids when accompanied by an eligible sponsor.

Fiddler’s Cove has several different sizes and types of boats to rent including sailboats ranging from 8 feet to 27 feet, 15 foot power boats, kayaks and canoes. Also available are slips from 30 feet - 45 feet, showers, bathrooms, a laundry facility, chandlery store, holding tank dump station, and dry storage space for boats and boat trailers. We also rent 4 foot by 4 foot and 4 foot by 8 foot ‘lock and leave’ lockers.

Cate, get a room at the Motel 6 ($53) in Hotel Circle near Mission Bay and come sailing with me. Or get a room at the Hyatt Islandia right in Mission Bay ($200). I'll give you more sailing than you can handle and if you want more, rent a Capri 14.

C250 rental is about $120/day. They have many boats from 14 to 30.

Thanks for the great offer Jim. We were actually thinking of doing an overnight and the C250 looks nice. We are having the navy boy check out Fiddlers Cove rentals because I am sure he would get the best price around.

If you do an overnight and want company, let us know, Fleet 7 needs a good excuse to sail to the big bay and have a raft up party.
