We plan to have fun and to be flexible. My work life is pretty regimented so when we get on the boat we do have a basic plan but we don't feel obligated to follow it. Even the Admiral who plans the heck out of vacations (we can do ALL the museums in Paris!) likes the laid back aspect of cruising.
We stay in daily touch via cell phones with our family so everyone knows about where we are.
Dave, that Herreshoff NY-30 is a pretty niece of wood. Your new gal must have some class. That begs the question, What is she doing hanging around you? Steve A
I went on a 3 day hiking trip this past weekend and after completion of the trail we ran into what appears to be a really active boy scout trip in the parking lot. We wound up talking for about an hour to the scoutmaster as he waited for all 30+ people in his group to finish the trail. He made a few comments that could also apply to sailing and echoes some of what dave said.
The first thing you need to do is make sure the boys ( in this case the admiral or crew) is able to take care of you when you go down or in and that they know how to take care of each other. Second to that is that they know how to get back to civilization.
Translated to sailor talk - Can you wife or crew Save your @$$? Do they know how to do various MOB drills using different retrieval methods? (figure 8, quick stop, reach reach etc.) Once they have you do they know what do do with you? and most importantly can they get your butt back to the land without endangering anyone else any further?

You really have to read the original post for your reply to make sense!!!! as you noted, probably better left unsaid
Funny how most threads rarely make it past the first "page" before devolving into a discussion about something entirely different than the original topic. And usually more amusing if not as informative.
