I have logged onto this site for well...I don't know...maybe 8 months or so, and no chat client yet. What needs to happen in order to get it done. I would love to chat live with users like me who would share stories of great adventures in sailing, as well as quick help tips..

At one time not long ago, we enjoyed the availability of many free (and mostly non-commercial) chat services. Most of these services offered both voice and text chat options and many of us would gather before important events to talk. Others would gather just to visit. Unfortunately, the dot.com bust has eliminated most, if not all, of these free services. Many made a final attempt to stay alive by offering to continue service for a small monthly fee. But, alas, this didn't work and they are now gone.

If you are aware of an existing voice/text chat service that is mostly non-commercial (no irritating pop up boxes, heavy advertising and the like), please let me know and I'll investigate it. To be honest, you are the first person to express an interest in the chat service.

As an interim measure, I found a chat server that let's us avoid commercial advertising. It is very basic (it doesn't provide voice capabilities), but it is free. There is no guarantee how long these folks will be around. Let's use it until it stops or until better solution is found.
