We found a 6 Gallon plastic Tempo tank that will fit in the C250 fuel locker. Unfortunately I don't remember which model, but it it the one without the gas gauge. One problem with this tank is that once you connect the fuel hose to the tank you can no longer remove the tank fro the fuel locker without removing the hose.
The metal tank is the best fit, but if the cost if prohibitive and if you like puzzles you can get a plastic tank to fit.
I have a Tempo 6 gallon fuel tank with a gas guage that fits into the locker though it is tight. I bought it at Defender though I believe it is availabe at West and Boat US.
I hate to be a pain but I would appreciate it if someone could give me either the West Marine or Boat US catalogue numbers for both the metal and plastic fuel tanks that fit the C250. I live in the San Juaquin Valley with no access to a supplier other than through the catalogue. I don't want to return the tank if it doesn't fit.
The plastic 6-gallon fuel tank at West Marine is model #304487 (17 dollars). You can buy the optional fuel guage that fits it, which is #304784 (17 dollars). The plastic tank will fit in the fuel locker, but it does take a little encouragement to get it in and out. I believe the metal tank is model #214809 (90 dollars).
If you get the Metal tank you may want to cut 2 wood shims to fit in the bottom of the fuel locker to set your tank on. We were surprised at how rusty the bottom of our 3 gallon metal tank was when we removed it.
On another note - we've found that not having a fuel gauge is really not a problem since you can look in the tank easily & see if its getting low. If we go on a trip where we might need more than 6 gallons we take an extra container of which we store by strapping it to the swim ladder.
have you tried to email or call Catalina? I have had great luck with other "parts" from them. Just recently notified them of cracks in the hinges of the port in the head, and two weeks later a new one arrived on my doorstep.
I tried the metal 6 gal Tempo tank on my brand new C250K #668 and it would not fit. It looked like I might be able to jam it in but I was concerned that removal might be difficult.
Is it possible that Catalina has changed the fuel locker on the latest C250's. The locker has a large lip that could be trimmed back a little with a coping saw to make it wide enough to accept the 6 gallon tank.
I just returned from an 8 day cruise in the San Juan Island's here in Seattle. I carried a 6 gallon gerry jug that I used to refill the tiny 3 gallon Tempo tank the dealer provided with the boat so I would like to change out the 3 gallon with a 6.
My hull number is 408 and while it is a tight fit, it does work. Try it empty. If it goes in, it almost has to come out. You could probably make one out of cardboard if you are really concerned to test it.
