The Coasties took advantage of an unusually large swell that hit Morro Bay on Dec 4, 2007.

I recieved the photos via email at least third hand so that is about all I know. I do know that this past weekend they were out practicing again at full speed in the mouth of the harbor but it was not like this at all!

For the full series go to Gary Robertshaw's web pagehttp://www.pbase.com/roberthouse/cg2007

Notice that they are on top of the boat - out in the water. Brrr!

For some cool video of these amazing boats check out this site http://www.uscg.mil/hq/g-o/nmlbs/video.html

Thanks Todd! The last video, a CNN story about the new boat, is very interesting.

That looks like so much fun, I would love a ride on a vessel that could do that. Imagine turning around and surfing them in!

I saw a lot of this on Australia. Surf rescue and launch is a big part of the Aus maritime culture.

How about "for the full series, go to the photographer's gallery at
www.pbase.com/roberthouse/cg2007 "?

These photos should not be at Shutterfly; they are my copyrighted photos and can't legally be printed and sold without permission. (or displayed on the web, for that matter). I don't mind them being in forums and blogs if photo credit is given, but they need to be somewhere that is not offering prints, as that's way over the line.

Better yet, just a link to the photographer's site where they're displayed without cost or ads, with captions and details, and links to where prints can be legally purchased.

Lovely art, Gary. You're right about the copyright thing. The internet has its downside there.

Sorry Gary. I only recieved the photos via an email with no reference to you. I have removed the Shutterfly album and revised the original post to link to your pages.
