One again I'll be racing against Dennis Conner on Stars and Stripes plus all the top local talent (including those guys from Sailing Anarchy) in this years New Years Day race.
Gary Norgan is entering so we'll have 2 Catalina 25s - his TR/Wing versus my SR/Fin. Gary does not have a spinnaker so we are in the JAM fleet. Lets hope for big winds so the SR has an even chance.
I'll be leaving New year's eve, sailing to San Diego, anchoring out. I'll be watching the New Year's fireworks from my boat in the big bay at midnight. I'll get up in the morning to pancakes and bacon, pick up my crew at 10:30, beat Gary, buy them all the best Mai Tai in town (made with absolutely 0% juice) and be home by 8 or 9 PM.
So far, so far, we have good weather forecast. You may remember my recent series of grave dissapointments at not being able to particiapte in various local races due to things like 8 foot seas and 30 knots of wind between Mission Bay and San Diego Bay.
Keep your eyes peeled for photos and stories to come!

I see Lowell North is there, too.
On Line entries are closed and there are 93 boats entered. Its New Years eve morning and I am getting to leave soon. I'll be back in a few days with some photos. Weather is very good - should be calm seas and light winds.
Today is 58 degrees, sunny, and a light wind. I can hear "Recess" calling me, but, lo, I'm stuck at work and can't get to her. A cold front is coming and tomorrow night it's supposed to go down to 15 degrees. I, too, envy you guys in San Diego right now. After the fire you went through, you deserve a good time at New Year's. So, Happy New Year, everyone!!
Great pix! Mara and I finally got out about 2:00 P.M. I headed south hoping to escort you guys back to MB, but when I called Gary around 3, he said you two were still racing. I sailed about half way down Pt.Loma. The wind started getting light and flukey so I turned back toward home. I was dropping the main just outside the basin about the time you took the sunset picture(yes, that was one of the best sunsets ever!)
Gary and Mike motored in about 40 minutes after me. We tried to figure out where you were. After the term mai-tai was mentioned several times we thought you were probably okay.
It was a great New Year's Day sail. Thanks for sharing the pix.
