Randy, I was looking at your pedestal showing your Garmin GPS (another thread) Anyhow, I'm hard pressed to believe there's more room in the cockpit with all that stuff. Particularly with the table up. Seems crowded to me. But, you're right, it's great to have the options that make us each happy.
David, Where do you attach your tiller extension? I, too, like to use it from the catbird seats but find the angle less than optimal. I think it is attached too far aft on my boat. How far back from the end of the tiller is the attachment point?
the extension is about two to three inches in from the end of the tiller. This allows me to sit anywhere in the cockpit, catbird seats etc. and still have control. I can easily manipulate the jib sheets, drink a beer and come about all at the same time.
John, I think we are talking about different things. My sense (from my C22 with tiller experience) is that the swing of the tiller during tacks makes the aft seating limited. This does not happen with a wheel. On the other hand, when anchored the tiller can be moved aside and the result is more cockpit room vs a wheel. Also, I do not leave the cockpit table up when sailing. It folds down flat against the pedestal guard when not in use.
