OK, it must be the weather because St. Augustine is loaded with hobos living on unkempt boats on the hook in the anchorage. They have anchor rodes that look like twine purchased from home depot and they frequently drag. They look bad and are bad. Homeless people they are not because they have a home - sorta - but it is a problem.
So we were cruising around in the dink and my wife said, "Hey that looks like our old boat!" Sure enough it was a C25! The fellow onboard just grunted when I asked him what year it was. Grizzly Adams had nothing on this guy. His boat was covered with junk and so was his dinghy. Oh, and two dogs!
Turns out that these guys wait until someone drags and then they "Salvage" the vessel, remove the engine and live on it. If you remove the engine the Coasties consider it a floating piece of junk, not a vessel, so they can't do anything about it. Some boats even go as far as dropping their masts such that they can't move. Out freaking standing!
