I just got my mainsail back from Clean Sails, North Sails of Oregon's recommended sail cleaner. They are in Bainbridge Island, WA. I'm very happy with the job they did. The PO had left the sail on the boat for a couple years and the sail cover went bad. The sail itself was in very good shape, but it had a lot of mildew spots, dirt along the edges where it had been flaked that made black lines across the sail and some green algae. They got it about 95% clean. Way better then I expected. They got out 100% of the mildew spots and green algae. The whole sail is nice and white again. There are still a few faint traces of the black marks a few places along the leach, but they warned me that was the hardest thing for them. They are a small shop and do an all hand process, no machine agitation or mechanical scrubbers. The sail fabric feels the same as when I sent it, nice and crispy. Oh, and they got it back to me in 2 weeks as promised.

Anyway, I'm giving a thumbs up to Clean Sails. As soon as I get it back on the boat I will post before and after pics. I have some I took just after I bought the boat. They have a little website at http://www.cleansails.com/ or call (206) 842-4445

I'm not trying to steal his thunder, but the web site he listed said $0.80 per sq. ft. for standard sails. That should translate to about $175-$190 for a 150 genoa. For comparison, I sent our main and 150 genoa to Sail Care in Ford City, PA when we bought the boat a little over a year ago. Their full process of cleaning, refurbishing, and some minor sewing repairs came to just under $500.

Yes, at $.80/ft it was $108 for the cleaning on the mainsail plus $12 UPS shipping each way.

That's a good price for quality work.
I sent my mail sail to North Sails in Vancouver BC last spring and they did an excellent job on fixing up my tired old wonky rag of a sail. Total bill was about $160 - they didn't clean it, they just fixed it up and sewed in a leech line.
