Generally, the mainsheet is piled loose on the cockpit floor, under the tiller, while sailing. In the slip, it's tied to the boom as in the pic. And yes, I will use a shackle, in fact, bought one today at WM along with the permanent line, 5/16"...and a few "necessary" other things. Hehe!

With my mainsheet hardened I separate the four lines into to two sections and set the coil of line there. I have never had the coil come out ad that includes many storms and very high winds.

I transferred my bimini from the C-22 rather than buy a new one (it's only 2 years old). It's wider than yours and mounts close to your position just about in the middle of the deck but outside the coaming.
