I "lost" one of the locking knobs on my motor bracket.... have no idea when (it may have been "liberated").. anyway I called Garelick to order a replacement. The customer service rep is sending one at no charge... even after I told her that I "lost it".
Some companies do indeed still have great customer service.
Stampeder, I replaced my factory mount this past year. You probably read about the saga on another thread on this forum. Avoid the mistake I made and don't buy a Fulton model 1810 or 1820 mount unless you put a 1" backing plate between the mount and the boat, and you'll probably have to buy longer screws to do it. It is substantial enough, but it lacks the curve in the extension bars going up to the handle that the C-25 needs. Knowing what I know now, if I could go back and do it again, I would buy the 3 or 4 spring model from Catalina Direct. (3 spring for Tohatsu 9.8 hp, 4 spring for Honda or Merc). It's the best fit. Unless you have the older lightweight Fulton mount (2 extension bars extremely close to each other)the replacement from CD will likely fit your existing holes in the transom. I'm not knocking Garelick - I have one on our C-22 and I do like it. It's just that you will have to drill new mounting holes in your boat.
I have a Honda 9.9 weighing in at 102 LBs and a two spring mount. I don't know the make of the mount, it functions properly but isn't suited for the job. It would be nice to be able to just add some spring to it. Is that possible or do I need a whole new unit?
I don't know what mount you currently have. Can you post a picture? I recommend finding a posting by OLarryR and click on his web site address. (Go to the Catalina 25 forum and the 3:1 or 4:1 mainsheet thread where we were discussing the mainsheet set-up. OLarrrR is on that one). Then click on his motor mount replacement project. He also has a Honda 9.9 and bought the 4 spring unit from CD. I think it is only $10 more than the 3 spring version. If your current mount looks a lot like his replacement mount, then youe mounting holes should match up.
I've dealt with Garelick for many years and have always been pleased with their products and service. In the old days when you ordered 'direct' you were often routed to the supervisor out on the shop floor... talk about going straight to the source.
I replaced my Outboard Motor Bracket with a Garhauer 4 spring model. Not sure if you will find it locally since i believe Catalina Direct has some kind of arrangement with garhauer selling these various spring units. I went the 4 spring route because I was going to buy a new Honda 9.9Hp (2006). Details and photos on my website - change the mount out by myself.
My primary decision with going with garhauer was because the original bracket was a Garhauer and supposedly the bolt holes would match up. I found that for my '89 and the 2 spring bracket that it came with, the new 4 spring bracket did have the same exact bolt hole arrangement ...so it was basically a remove and then plug-in play effort.
Catalina Direct has a chart that indicates based on the weight of your motor which Garhauer bracket you should get. My Honda electric Start was something ...107lbs or so.
