Last week posted an item about my outboard (8 hp honda) stalling at low (shift) idle. Thanks to Leon I solved the problem. I removed the carburator cleaned it with carb cleaner, blew it out with air and replaced the pilot screw. That is the one you tighen in and then back out 2 and one half turns. The new on the tappered end was .015 inch larger than the old. Could that have been a problem or was cleaning it enough. We are dealing with some very small orifices.
Anyhow it is doable without removing motor from boat. We do not trailer. I used a piece of plastic and duct tape and made a diaper around motor in case I dropped something. Then only problem, it was 97 degrees on the bay this weekend and doing the job was a real cooker.
At the dealer the service manager said they do not attempt to clean or repair any carbs on the honda 8's they always replace the carb. List on new carb is $153.00. The screw was $6.00 and cleaner was $2.00. Will see how long it lasts.
I am doing what Leon suggested and that is running the fuel out of the motor ant he end of the cruise.
