What is the correct procedure for pumping the holding tank? I need to pump mine out today and can't seem to find the directions with my paperwork for the boat.

I know you need to remove the deck plug but what other steps need to be followed and in what order?

If using a self-service pumpout device, attach the pumpout hose to the deck fitting on your boat ensuring the valve on the hose is in the closed position. Next, turn on the pump then open the valve. After completing the pumpout, close the valve then turn off the pump. Lastly, disconnect the hose from the deck pumpout fitting.

Thank you Don. What position should the valve on the head be in?

Gary,

To my knowledge, the valve position on the head is irrelevant.

To play it safe we always made sure the valve on the head was on dry bowl - just to make sure we weren't sucking in Lake Water. I don't know if it could have happened but logically it made sense.

Also - after pumping the thing out, fill it up with water and suck it out again - most pumpout stations have a water hose there for this purpose.

Also - the absolute best way to do this is give the guy at the pumpout station a really good monetary gratuity.

Thanks Don and Duane!

As is my usual M.O. I went down to the boat today to work on it and pump out the tank and instead went sailing. Wasn't that great, only about 3 - 4 knots of wind and 1 - 1.5 knots on the GPS for most of the afternoon.

I will probably go down one night this week to pump out the tank and maybe spend the night on the boat. Our pump out facility is self-service so I'll be sure to tip myself well!

Thank you again for your help and support!
