Since I've seen the question come up very recently on other threads, even if only as a pondering thought, I wanted to provide this again: From an article I read on the net about C-22 HIN's that should apply to C-25's also, here's how the hull identification number (HIN) breaks down: Example: CTYK4142M84B (my boat) CTY = Catalina Yachts K = model (in our case the C-25, 'H' is used for the C-22) 4142 = hull number M = ? I think this is model and with the 84 together denote model year 84 = 1984 model year B = built in Sept. of 1983 " The model year scheme in use between 1975 and 1984 derived the year built information from the model year and the month built. For example, a boat whose last 3 letters of the HIN were 82A would actually be a 1982 model year Catalina 22 {or perhaps 25}built in August of 1981." Note - A was used for August, B for Sept, C for Oct, etc, rolling around to F for Jan on to L for Jul. The letter M was not used for a month, hence I think it means model. Sometime during 1984, probably August, the month scheme was changed to A for Jan, B for Feb, on up to L for Dec. Again M was not used for a month. The month letter was placed in the 4th from last position in the HIN followed by a numeral for the year built and the last 2 digits representing the model year. Example: F697 = model year 97 built June '96. Are you now thoroughly confused?
