With the old sails off waiting for the new ones, seems like a opportunity for that ball bearing upgrade I've been wanting to do. Did a forum search, lots of good info on the subject, should be easy.
The P.O.'s kept a very detailed file with all upgrades, maintenance, ect. Which contains a cdi 4/6 manual and a brochure. Inside the brochure they have a check next to model 3b.
So how can I tell which one has been installed? I don't think I've ever read of a cdi 3b having been installed on one our boats and why would you?

I've never seen anything referencing a "3b" version but I'm a relative novice. I'd ask the folks at CDI about this one.

Don/ John,

I have a CDI-3B on Calista. It's an oldie but still functioning well. I've thought about switching over to the CDI Flex Furl but feel that the benefits don't justify the expense. If there are any questions about the 3-B that I might be able to answer, fire away.

Val, so whats the difference between a 3b and a 4? I thinking both are flex furls. What I've come up with so far is the FF3b is used when the turnbuckle is to large to fit inside the drum of the next smaller size. Both have the same size drum(5.8"), #6 luff tape. There is a difference in luff size 0.6x1.4" vs 0.9x1.9". If I knew what a luff size was maybe I could tell what mine is.

Don,

Having read your latest thread I'm now as confused as you are.

The CDI-3B that I have is very old. The furler is made up of several lengths of aluminum keyed together. I haven't a clue what the luff rope size is. Kinda busy now but the brochure that came with the furler is somewhere in the archives. A while ago I e-mailed the brochure to another person with a 3-B. If you can't find anything in the archives I'll check out my files and locate the pictures of the furler. The FF-3B is a Flex-Furler I assume and as such a newbie.
