1. no, i don't take long trips. not on the 250wb, that's for sure. and NO ONE poops on my boat.
2. i have no problem in cleaning the porta potty (sans poop). quite simple, really.
3. i've had marine heads before. wonderful, until some aspect of the system starts breaking down, and then, WATCH OUT! i don't know if i remember a more disgusting episode.
4. nothing wrong with a drop or two of blue stuff in the pump tank. it keeps everything fresh and that much more antiseptic.
5. the eyeS feel much better, thank you.
6. to reiterate--PLEASE be careful with those things. it didn't feel like a joke when it happened and i would hate for it to happen to anyone else. what i can't understand is why the manufacturer doesn't put in a small relief valve.
So glad to hear your eyes are OK, the "blue" is pretty toxic stuff. I guess I have known two dozen people who used portapotties over the years, and have had several myself, sometimes by choice and sometimes by inheritance. My speculation is that probably 90 per cent of the owners put a little blue in the pumping compartment to make the flush a little sweeter. Your post, however painful to you, is a lesson to all of us to be careful when pulling the slide. My newly purchased C25 SR SK 1981 Orion came with the original pottie which was half destroyed and the rest "a mite peaked" and went directly (after emptying) into the dumpster (not the port one). I am currently waiting for Boat/US or West to put 'em on sale again. Yours for simpler waste disposal, Ron in SW Fla.
We had a port a potty in the old boat. It worked fine for week end trips, though it did smell a bit after the first use even with the blue stuff. The C25 came with a marine head. Since there is no pump out at our location I got a waste caddy, works well. The only time I know about similar explosions happened at college. I was taking an anerobic metabolism class in bacteriology. We were making anerobic environments with various samples from the Sacramento zoo, tiger crap works well. The samples were placed in erlinmyer (sp) flasks with a little fluid and other nutrients and capped off. My partner was also a TA for the teacher and in another class she had a 5 liter environment going. There must have been a flaw in the glass because while picking it up it exploded and sent glass shards flying. The next time I saw her she had quite a few bandages on her face. She came out fine. So just don't use a glass porta potty.
