Yes stainless. I've replaced mine a couple times, purchased same from Catalina Direct. A competent marine rigging shop could also make one up for you (the swaged end).
Your swing keel mechanism is something you need to be comfortable with. You need to take a close look at all components and monitor them. I keep all my swing keel stuff in good repair, knowing that it is the weak spot on my boat - I don't need to worry about it, I just need to be smart about it. For the sailing I do, I still believe it is the best boat for me. I relate my SK to my vehicles -I don't worry about tires because I buy good ones and rotate them and check the pressure often.
Mike I appreciate your enthusiasm for your swing keel mechanism, but I asked if the cable was stainless steel or not, and it is, I checked it this afternoon, and yes it is important to keep everything in good working order, as I know I have been in the mechanical business my whole life,
