SNOW WILL DEVELOP BY EARLY THIS EVENING AND QUICKLY BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES. THE SNOW WILL GRADUALLY TAPER OFF OVERNIGHT AND END TOWARD SUNRISE SATURDAY. TOTAL SNOWFALL ACCUMULATIONS OF 2 TO 6 INCHES ARE EXPECTED...WITH THE HIGHEST TOTALS OCCURRING OVER THE SOUTHWEST PART OF THE COUNTY.
A WINTER STORM WARNING MEANS SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF SNOW... SLEET... AND ICE ARE EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. STRONG WINDS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE. THIS WILL MAKE TRAVEL VERY HAZARDOUS OR IMPOSSIBLE.
If winter is officially over, shouldn't this be a spring storm warning?
I've got to get all the old bedding removed, need to clean the boat from top to bottom, will clean and Poli-Glow the hull, will wax the topsides, will reinstall all the brightwork (I just machined a new companion-way threshold on my table saw), will replace my depth gauge and install a new sonar transducer inside the hull with toilet bowl sealing wax, have to reinstall the compass, will clean and oil the interior wood work, gonna touch up the bottom paint, will install a 30W solar array with a regulator, need to clean and prep the sails, and will check my through-hull fittings & replace my hose clamps. What do they say, "a couple of 50 cent hose clamps is all that keeps your boat afloat?"
I'm hoping to launch the third week of April. Wish me luck!
I'm sailing today. Temp will be around 50F but it is around 35-40F right now. Heading down there soon. Winds this past week have been crazy with some days of very high gusting wind and then no wind. I was out 2 days and both times had the main reefed. One day I only used the main and the other had the genoa half furled.
Winds today 5-10 Mph !
I can't work on my wood trim or put a coat of Polyglow on just yet. They should be turning on the water to the docks in 1-3 weeks and I wanted to wash the boat thoroughly first then I can finish those tasks.
I checked forecast for Seattle area and the temps are about the same as here...perhaps a few degrees cooler for the week. We may hit 58-60F mid-week while Seattle area may stay hovering around 49-50F during daytime. What's the story with the rain out there - 90% and then 50% the rest of the week ? One of the times I was out to Bangor or Bremerton, someone from that area told me "It never rains here" "Just a mist comes down". I think they also said it does not snow out there...must be not true. What about those trade winds ? Don't you get the warm weather blowing in from Hawaii ? Or you are not trading from that neck of the woods right now ?
