Very cool. I've been doing a lot of research on renewable resource energy so this is a welcome tidbit. Necesity being the mother of invention, this gives a lot of hope for the future when rock oil does indeed run out, because if mankind can come up with this wonderful invention at this juncture, we can do just about anything when really pushed.
YEARS AGO THE SAME TECHNOLOGY WAS DEMONSTRATED AS AN ELECTRIC GENERATOR. IT WAS DEPICTED AS WHAT LOOKED LIKE A VENETIAN BLIND LAYING IN THE OCEAN AND THE FLIPPING OF THE VANES CAUSED BY WAVE ACTION, GENERATED ELECTRICITY. WHY IT WASN'T USED IS OPEN TO SPECULATION.

The sea tends to destroy man-made objects placed in it. IMHO: Maintenance would eat you out of house and home. This is why every time I see another plan for wave-action power generation I think 'snake oil'.
Practical commercial power from tidal flows... yes... wave action... no.
You can make one hell of a thermocouple in 5000 feet of water. Great way to generate energy using the difference in temperature between the surface and the bottom.
I've also often thought of ocean buoys moving up and down on the swell being connected to magnets in coils generating DC current to be stored in batteries or capacitors.
