Well, we dropped the mast today and that was a ton of fun. Luckily it was me and 3 others so we mostly just man handled it down. Looks like im getting new fore/back stays as mine are pretty eaten up with rust.
At the masthead I found out that not only did 2 of my sheeves shatter, but the PO had NOT switched out the sheeves from wire-rope to all rope!!! Well, Im pretty sure. The sheeves still have the old wire impressions down inside the grooves and my 5/16 line barely rides on the top. No wonder I needed a darn winch just to raise my main
I purchase sheeves last week and they wont be until tomarrow so I jumped online and got the dimensions. Unless I did measuring wrong, the sheeves I got from CD are not going to fit. I bought some locally that matched the dimensions and well, they are a tad too wide to fit inside the trunk. Do you have to switch the masthead as well when you convert to all line??????
we shall see what happens today when the "real" sheeves from CD arrive. Im hoping I was just a little off on my measuring.
Interesting view with the mast down though.... easy perspective to work on things. Thinking about replacing the mast light, adding masthead VHF antenna, and a new windex
Does anybody know whether Belpat Marine on Long Island is still around, and still making sheaves? They were making and stocking custom sheaves for 5/16" halyards on the C-25 back when I needed some--no manufacturer (or Catalina Direct) had the right size. They were very reasonably priced, perfectly sized, and quickly expedited.

Many of us take our masts down every season, it is nice to have the opportunity to work on things.
