If you have tried polishing compound - hand rubbed, not with a buffer? If so, then manufacturer's recommended paint prep any of the high quality marine paints. I think automotive vinyl trim tape would be a very reasonable alternative, and it is fairly easy to remove with a heat gun.

Hey Steve, Bought the boat in Elephant Butte NM. 9h drive down from Denver (16 hr drive home with the boat and trailer) Let me know if you are ever in Colorado.
