Years of intense sun in New Mexico has taken its toll on my 77 Catalina 25. Specifically, the red stripe on the hull looks very faded.

Does anyone have any tips / suggestions for how to best re-paint the hull stripe?
What type of paint is best? What prep work is required?

Thanks very much in advance.

If you have tried polishing compound - hand rubbed, not with a buffer? If so, then manufacturer's recommended paint prep any of the high quality marine paints. I think automotive vinyl trim tape would be a very reasonable alternative, and it is fairly easy to remove with a heat gun.

Are you talking about the Boot Stripe?

Check the Interlux website for the right stuff. If you want to re-apply a bootstripe and have a glossy finish, this is probably the stuff you want.

An Aside:

Mike, how do you go back and edit your previous post? I've looked around an can't seem to find instructions for that magical process.

By the way, Chuck, welcome to the forum. You might edit you "Signature" to include your boat information.

Chuck,
I'm in New Mexico also. Didn't know about any other CAT 25 owner here. Where you at?
