Probably depends on how bad it is, but I have done the following: Using a grinding wheel on an electric drill, I've knocked the rust and burrs off and taken it down to well adhered paint or bare metal. Then, I brush painted with Hammerite paint (used it on my trailer and it works well; looks galvanized) Then, paint with bottom paint.

Lower the keel on the aft end so you can reach it all; then lower the front end using the 4 long bolt trick described in the tech section (sorry, don't know where right now). You can then reach it all. Consider replacing the cable, if needed. BTW: I am in fresh water.....

Ron,

Normally I'd suggest you search our archives for a review of this reoccurring topic. However, this BBS's archives seem to truncate messages, and our C-25 archive on Trailer Sailor seem to have disappeared. So, here's a link to a discussion of this topic on the more general Trailer Sailor board:

Link to TSBB swing keel maint. article

And here's a link to an article on installing a C-25 swing keel at home in the driveway: Swing keel installation

Here's a photo of the all-thread keel lowering method:

I hope some of that helps. Let us know if you have more specific questions.
