So here is take #3 for launching but I don't see anything stopping me this time.

I'd like to go ahead and get the sails on if I have time. The main is no big deal. It is just like my San Juan but a bit bigger. The Jib is a different story though. I have never bent a sail onto a furler so wish me luck!!!

Any tips?

You shouldn't have any issues. Have you reviewed the furler techniques in the manual? Do you have a CDI furler.

I'm smiling just thinking about how great it feels to launch your boat the first time.

Let's know how it goes.

With the furler, before putting on the headsail, make sure the furling line is already wound up nicely inside the drum.

Oh, and good luck on Splash Day!

The boat is in and on its mooring in teh georgeous ashley river, Charleston SC. Two good friends came over and helped me raise the mast and put it in. The mast went up without much fuss. The A frame worked great. Thanks again Arlyn!!! I didn't get to bend on the sails as my helpers were out of time and I was the ride home. I will try to get to that tomorrow but it may have to wait a few days. Looking at the furler, I think I need to re-read the manual.

I didn't see any evidence of a leak from the WB tank. I closed the valve after I stopped hearing air come out of the vent. It didn't take very long to fill up. I'd say maybe 5 minutes. Does that sound right???

Oneo ther thing I pondered as I was motoring out to the mooring, how do I know if I have a standard or tall rig?

Other things I noticed today.
1. The keel didn't seem like it wanted to lower when I uncleated it. I had to pull a little on the line and then let some out, pull a bit let more out till it went down. Is that typical?

2. I had trouble getting the rudder to go down into position. I have the beaching rudder. I know Arlyn has mentioned it before. On the mooring the rudder is up out of the water. I need to see what I can do of Arlyn's mod to make a rudder hold down line or something.

3. My bow cleats are too small for the size mooring penants that I have. How should I deal with that? Should I run a bridle from one cleat through the penant eyes to the other cleat?

When I had my 1st generation beaching rudder I would install it with the blade locked down with the locking paddles holding it down. Sometimes I would need to drop the swim ladder and stick my foot down to tighten the handle enough to keep the blade from slipping back. If the blade slips 1" when sailing you will think your driving a Mack truck. I would leave it down all the time if it were my boat.

I can do that but I will need to remove it and bottom paint it if I leave it down.

Man it must stink to live in the north!!! I am sunburned and turning on the AC today!!!

BTW, the boat is still attached to the mooring WAHOO
It hasn't sunk WAHOO #2
It doesn't appear to be taking on any water WAHOO #3

I'd drink a beer and celebrate if I didn't have to work tonight.

Canada is one of the greatest countries in the world. However being a sailor at heart with no affection for winter it not easy. Believe me if Green Cards weren't as difficult to get I would move to the States in a jiffy. Sun it out now, snow is melting.
