I tried to tighten up my port side uppers this morning, and I noticed that the piece of threaded rod that goes into the bottom of the turnbuckle was coming loose from the toggle on the bottom. Not cool. So I went to West Marine to buy a new toggle. Unfortunately, I forgot to take my rig specifications with me.
I got back to the boat and noticed that the upper shrouds (and the forestay) are 3/16. Eyeball wise, the threaded rod looks like 5/16, which is what I bought. Did I buy the right piece, or should I have bought a 3/16 toggle?
I'm at the office now, which is why I'm asking the question instead of just trying on the new piece. We've got a race tonight, so I'd like to get this together soon.
Thanks,

Bruce, on my boat, upper shrouds are 3/16" wire, 5/16" threads. Fwd & aft lowers are 5/32" wire, 5/16" threads. All the turnbuckles are the same size. Are you saying that your upper shroud turnbuckle was stripping out? Sounds very scary.
The turnbuckle wasn't exactly stripping out. When I tighened the turnbuckle, the threaded rod on the bottom of the turnbuckle unscrewed itself from the toggle below. The rod should be firmly attached so that it doesn't unscrew, which is why I bought a new piece of hardware.
Had I not noticed this, then THAT would have been scary.
