We spent 6 days aboard for a 5 day cruise in Lake Erie last year, total distance was around 100 miles with 2 Canadian and 2 US ports. That gave us plenty of time for sightseeing and messing around at our destinations.
Twenty plus years ago I took my Catalina 22 to Catalina Island from Newport beach for a week sail. Its about 40 miles around the island and another 26 miles each way from the mainland. So total was about 90+ miles. Wow, that is alot, for me. Today I sail my c250 to Avalon or the Isthmus which is about 31 miles each way from Newport. Funny you ask cuz I just got back from a 4 day trip to Avalon so I Chalked up 52 or so miles. Steve A
We usually spend 4-5 days at a time cruising the west coast of Florida. And even though it is the same cruising grounds and anchorages, every trip takes on life of its own and is different in its own way. However you might read this story, I was very inspired by it.
Spent 3-weeks going from Herrington Harbor in Rose Haven, MD to Washington, NC via Manteo (& return) - about 700 nm. It was great! We even had a 8 month old baby aboard.
Well, mine is pretty small compared. On our launch last year was our farthest trip yet. Of course we are on a lake and launched by the dam and our mooring is at the other end of the lake. We would like to trailer it to Erie, PA and do a trip to Crystal Beach in Canada to visit friends.
Family sail into NW for 2 weeks launching at Edmonds and looping through south Sound. All this started after a one week rental of 25 CAL by us four fellows the year before. Have gone for 5 weeks cruise up through the Gulf Islands and wouldn't do it for less than 5 weeks ever again. After spending a month on the boat in San Diego for longest cruise south just can't get enough. Maybe because of my age the every other year cruise of the NW just gets better meaning my memory lets me enjoy the cruise like it's all new. I really enjoy reading about and meeting the cruisers. Hope to see you out there too. Henk's trip is winner.
I've only done a 3 day stint on Bamboo but about 20 years ago did a Daytona to Key Largo and back over 2 weeks (600 mi), the year before did a Daytona to Ft. Lauderdale and back over 2 weeks (440 mi), and the year before did a Daytona to Sebastian Inlet and back over 1 week (200 mi). I hope to be able to explore the east coast for extended periods in several years.
On a C-25 right? Don't remember ! Actually I'm embarrassed to say that I sail daily and have been doing so since retiring sixteen years ago. Raised two boys doing just that until they reached school age and then it was solo sailing daily but being on call to meet the school bus at 3 P.M. You can't get very far with such time constraints. And its been bugging me for as long. Question is, will I ever get to post a boast. I'm seventy eight and my youngest is twelve give him six years to reach his majority and I'll be eighty-four. Then LOOK OUT!!!
Ten days. Have to look back at my log but I think over 400 miles. I single handed the last 100+ miles during which I had one of the best sailing days of my 19 years sailing my C25. It was glorious.
Last year was my first with Passage and Cathy & I did 35 miles in two days. This was really a maiden voyage for us, just to prove out the equipment. The Queen size airmattress worked out great between the dinette seats and the starboard bench seat. We were extremely comfortable.
This June, I plan on a 60 mile one way / 120 mile round trip between Stratford and Essex Island on the Connecticut River. It should take us two days out and two days back.
After that, sky's the limit - there's plenty of good sailing at the east end of Long Island. Any suggestions and tips would be very welcome.
I would like to go on a long trip but things just have not worked out to do that. maybe this season.
I do a lot of daysailing after work hours. I can get out of work between 3pm & 4pm and my boat is located just 5-10 minutes down the road. So, I oftentimes will be sailing 2-3 hours on a weekday afternoon-evening. The weekends when i can stay out the whole day, I have gone about 25 miles round trip as max for the day and I have done that a few times. This basically is from the Potomac River/Anacostia River where my marina is to south on the Potomac River to the Mason Neck Park, VA area and back.
The one overnighter with my wife was a relatively short destination away. Hope to do longer distances and addl overnighters this season. But we have other things that we also are or want to do and so it is a balancing act as to what I or we do on the boat.
I know I should have posted my pathetic trip before the big boys got in . Oriental, NC to Ocracoke Island (~40nm).
quote:
Whats the farthest you've gone in your boat? Or how long have you stayed on it and where did you go? Just interested in what people have to say :]
