I posted this mod some time ago with few replies. Can't understand why since it's a mod Catalina should provide instead of the convoluted, so called single line system the factory installs on all 250's. As you can see from the pic, a single line is attached to the leech cringle and is threaded through a cam cleat on the boom. I've added a horn cleat just below it to improve security. The luff line leads from the luff cringle, down and thru a mast step block, then aft to the inboard starboard clutch. To reef, secure the luff first and then the leech, a 10 to 15 second single handed maneuver. More pics in the archives under AADIVER.

Frank;
I have also modified my reefing, securing the luff cringel using a reefing hook at the goose neck and leaving the leach reefing line run through the boom. I like the line running through the boom, up though the leach cringle then secured to the boom, as the line not only pulls the leach down to the boom, but much more importantly pulls the cringle out to the end end of the boom, flattening the sail. If you only pull the cringle straight down to the boom I don't think you would get the necessary outhaul-flattening of the main.
Just my two cents worth

I use the factory supplied system and it works just fine for us. I added small blocks at the reef points to make the lines run easier.

"...pulls the cringle out to the end end of the boom."

Bill, your WB boom must be shorter than my FW boom, 'cause when I secure the leech line the foot of my loose footed sail is almost taut from gooseneck to cringle and the distance from it to the end of the boom is about 14 inches.
