I eventually will get around to doing something about this but here's my situation. I took the PO's life ring and slipped it onto the ladder standoffs with the rubber caps. Then to ensure it does not slip off those stand-offs, I attached a slip-not around the life-ring rope (part of the life-ring) to the ladder vertical. (By the way, my ladder can be pulled down if overboard since I have a line that holds it up cam cleated at a vantage point for a swimmer to undo it.

Anyway, my setup with the life-ring is deficient. The life-ring is out of the way and the convenience of using those stand-offs certainly was easy - But the slip-knot is not the greatest idea for ensuring the life-ring stays put. It can harden with time and not everyone knows what to do to undo it.

I was considering something else to replace my current set-up, but perhaps a more substantial holder than those one point holders for life-rings...unless many of recommend it...then maybe I will consider it...if I warm up to the idea. I see that West Marine also sells a 3 point holder where the life-ring sits into these 3 supports securely and that's it - It does not move around not like I suspect it would with a 1 point/support holder. But not sure where to mount it and for it to be out of the way but easy access.

The other thought was to get a life-sling and where to mount that where it would be sort out of the way but easy access. I like the idea of it being all inclusive with a safety line and life-sling all in one for easy use, though, you have this sort of box hanging up or off the rail.

Then again...maybe my original set-up is not all that bad just have to find something better than a slip-knot to ensure ring is held onto the stand-offs, though, the ring seems snug on them.

The outboard and solar panel are on the starboard side and the ladder is on the port side.

Suggestions as to what has worked for you ?

The photo shows the life-ring where presently mounted....and may stay there.

Nice arrangement. As for a replacement for the slip knot you might try using a velcro strip with a short tag line attached through a gromet in the velcro. Then a swimmer would only have to pull the line to part the velcro and release the life ring.

That certainly would be an easy fix and keep same arrangement which has worked for me.

Don,

I have to look my boat over to see if your arrangement is a possibility. My stern rail is not across the entire transom.
