Another question on how its supposed to be set up. Cat 25 has two clamshell vents on the stern. Aft facing vent on starboard side has 3" hose which runs, well used to run when it was all one piece, to a hole in the very bottom of the dumpster locker. Port side clamshell faces forward. Now since in the 78 model the fuel can is stored on a shelf in the dumpster locker, it would seem that these vents are meant to vent any gas fumes that would drop, since gas fumes are heavier than air, to the bottom of the dumpster locker. Port side vent should let air in. Starboard side vent would suck them out. Now here is the issue. I see on the bottom of the port side clam shell vent a piece of 3" hose connected. Most of it is gone. My question is, where did this hose lead to? I would think that simply having the forward facing vent induce air into the locker at the top would suffice. So, if a hose is to be connected to the forward facing clamshell vent on the port side, where should it lead to?

The hose should be attached to the aft facing vent and run all the way down to the lowest point in the dumpster locker, at least that's how it was set up on our C-22. The forward-facing vent needs no hose. It feeds air into the locker air space and the air is forced to exit beginning at the end of the hose. Since that hose-end is at the lowest point in the locker, in theory it will carry out any gas fumes.
Since I still store fuel on the shelf the smell of fuel is an alarm that things are not right. Last cruise the smell caused me to look around and the hose from the starboard vent had pulled out of the hole into the bottom of the locker. It was a simple fix after unloading all the cruise gear and I check that vent hose each time I open the storage compartment under the starboard aft bunk, 79 C25.
