I recently purchased New uppers Chainplates and a Stemfitting with Anchor Roller from CatalinaDirect.com, and have a couple questions.

On the stem fitting: The new stem fitting extends far lower than the original that's on the boat. Instead of only having one horizontal bolt in the front (Just beneath the rub-rail) it extends down and has 2 more bolt holes, and a back-plate for these. My question is, to what should I attache these bolts to?

On the Uppers Chainplates. On the original chainplates, where they are bolted to the bulkheads, the bolt-holes are in a straight line. On the new set, they are zig-zagged, so obviously these holes won't match with the drill holes in the bulk-head. With what can I fill in the old holes?

The stem fitting goes inside the rub rail and bolts through the bow with the backer in the anchor locker. It greatly strengthens the fitting from being pulled up by the forestay. You can use the Search function to see threads on this installation--look for "stem fitting" in the C-25 forum--check the Archives checkbox.

I hope the holes for the new chainplate are not too close to the old ones... but if they are, to maintain strength and assuming the old holes will be covered by the chainplate, I'd glue pieces of dowel into the holes. When installing the new ones, don't tighten the nuts too much--you don't want to crush the plywood.

Dave, thanks for your reply.

I will do a search as you suggested. I haven't actually attempted these installations yet, but just looking at it, i was having trouble visualizing the stem fitting.

I actually thought about potential trouble with drilling all those large holes in the bulkhead, especially if they are close together. That is a good suggestion with the dowel.

CatalinaDirect has some great products, but nothing I've ever purchased comes with instructions or suggested procedures. Would be nice especially with the items that are modified/upgraded from the original design, and not exactly the same. Just to be sure it goes in they way they intended, i guess.

Anyway, thanks again

Matt
