First of all just want to say thanks to everyone for all the expert advice in the past. With that said, I'm installing a new VHF radio. Wiring in boat appears to be aluminum and power wires coming out of radio are copper. Would it be a problem combining these or do I have to rewire mast and boat? I really don't want to have to do that if I can get away with it.
Like Don said, you're almost certainly looking at tinned copper wire. The tin makes it look like it's aluminum, but this is standard for marine applications. You shouldn't have to rewire your mast or boat.
Another aside - you may want to verify the gauge of wire you have for your VHF. Up here the difference between "the good stuff" and the next size down is about 20 cents per foot. Over a 30 foot mast and 25 feet of internal wiring, that adds up to a whopping $11 difference. Well worth it for the extra peace of mind. Now if only I could remember the code letters for it.
