Here I sit looking at my new electric start Nissan 9.8 that just arrived in the middle of a rain/hail/ice storm and have been reading the forum posts concerning E10. How about just regular alcohol added to gas. Yes E10 is available in some areas of Colorado but I beleive that they add just reguler old alcohol to the gas, but it's not called E10. Will that hurt my new engine? I thijk that the percentage is lower.
Thanks, Loren

You'll be fine... You might be talking about a winter mixture to prevent fuel line freezing. For insurance for your Nissan, you can install a Racor fuel filter/water separator between the tank and the engine, and add some StaBil or similar stabilizer to the fuel. You'll love that little 4-stroke!

Loren,

If you bought that motor from ONLINE motors a call to them will settle any doubts that you may still have. Should the alcohol blend that your location provides is not suitable, one solution might be to use Coleman gas, sold in one gallon cans at camping /rv stores. The Nissan uses so little fuel that it could be cost effective for you.

Hmmm... I Googled "Coleman octane" and found this:

No wonder that it knocks!<hr height="1" noshade id="quote"></font id="quote"></blockquote id="quote">I presume the Nissan wants something like 87.

I've been burning regular unleaded in my new Nissan 9.8 without any problems so far. Actually, I'm using up the gas from my 5hp Merc tank. Same gas that goes in my car. however, I'll check the owner's manual, if it says 89 octane for the Nissan, I'll move up to the middle grade on my next tank. And, I'm thrilled with the new motor. It's a jewel!
