I was just cleaning my mast slot to get our sails to raise more easily. When I ran a slug up and down the length it was still catching. Upon closer inspection, I see that the lips of the slot were nicked up. Putting some silicone lubricant on it didn't help.
I'm guessing I should sand these smooth with fine sandpaper like 400 grit, but I wanted to check in and see if there are any other suggestions on how to fix this.
You can also go all-nylon slugs so you don't ding up your mast groove... but you need to replace them every few years as they they deteriorate and lose strength.
